Stephen Scates

Communications Manager
Steve oversees the marketing and communications functions of the firm. He is responsible for strategy, public relations and media, corporate communications, print/web graphic design, events and conferences, and community impacts reporting. Steve has 15 years of experience as a communications professional in community development, advertising and publishing. Prior to joining UFA during its inception, he worked as Art Director for KinetiComm, a PR firm; graphics contractor with the Portland Development Commission; Art Director for Productivity, Inc., a business improvement publisher; and Senior Designer with KBSS, Inc., an advertising communications agency. He also founded Graphiquorum Design Services, a freelance practice in Portland, OR.

Previously, Steve served five years of active and reserve duty in the US Army. He deployed for a tour of duty in Panama, and received two Army Commendation medals, the Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and Air Assault Badge during his service. He enjoys hiking with his two dogs, camping, gardening and woodworking.
